Chevron Flooring FAQs

What exactly is chevron flooring?

Chevron flooring is a pattern design where planks are cut at an angle and installed to form a continuous “V” shape across the floor. Allure chevron flooring uses a 45-degree angle and rhombus shaped tiles to provide the classic look of Chevron flooring in an easy to install DIY format.

Is chevron flooring difficult to install?

Traditional Chevron hardwood flooring is very complex to install. Allure vinyl chevron flooring uses pre-made rhombus shaped tiles to greatly simplify the installation process. While Allure Chevron flooring is far easier to install than the traditional wood version it still does require more cuts than your typical vinyl plank or tile. Ordering additional materials (overage) is recommended when installing chevron flooring.

What is the difference between chevron and herringbone flooring?

Chevron and herringbone are both classic parquet flooring patterns, but they differ in how the planks are cut and installed.

Chevron: Planks are cut at an angle and meet at a perfect point, forming a continuous “V” pattern. Allure Chevron Flooring uses a 45-degree angle.

Herringbone: Vinyl planks are installed in a zigzag pattern where ends overlap.

Chevron flooring creates a more directional and overall clean, yet classic look, while herringbone designs tend to appear busier.

Does chevron flooring make a room appear larger?

Yes. The “V” chevron pattern naturally guides the eye further into the room creating a greater sense of depth.

Chevron flooring can make a room appear longer, wider, or more dynamic, which is one reason designers often use it in hallways and often leading towards focal points like a dining room table or hearth.

Where does chevron flooring look best in a home?

Chevron flooring works well in many residential spaces, including:

  • Living rooms
  • Dining rooms
  • Hallways
  • Entryways
  • Bedrooms
  • Open-concept living areas

The directional pattern helps define zones and focal points in large spaces while adding character and depth to smaller rooms.
